ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30), and Michael Morgan on July 2 1989. They raised her along with her sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan played a variety of games as a child but she began playing soccer at the age of 14. Morgan joined the Cypress Elite club team and won the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. She also placed third place in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to hone her skills in soccer in Diamond Bar High School. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She also participated in the Olympic Development Program's state and regional divisions. Morgan continued her career in soccer in UC Berkeley. UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring during her first season. She led the team to the NCAA Tournament in four years and then to the second round twice. Morgan was one of the four finalists for the Honda Sports Award. This made her the first Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed in the top spot on the list. Morgan finished her degree in 2010 with the third-highest amount of goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan played soccer at both the collegiate as well as national level throughout her college. Morgan sustained an ACL injury during her first year at Berkeley. It prevented her from playing in U.S. women's under-20 soccer until April of 2008. She scored her debut international goal in Mexico at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan also participated in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup which she scored four goals while getting her team an Olympic gold medal, along with other accolades.Morgan was then absorbed by the senior national team in which she was substituted and scored a number of important goals. One of them was a goal to win against Italy which earned the U.S. team a final place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player on the team and led it to victory against France. Morgan, despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score both an assist or a goal.
